Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on resolving disputes for peace on the border in bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the occasion of the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan after nearly four and a half years.
In the talks, the Prime Minister welcomed the agreement to withdraw troops from the front line in eastern Ladakh on the India-China border and resolve issues that arose in the year 2020. PM Modi said that maintaining peace and stability on the border should remain our priority. He said that India and China should resolve their differences and disputes properly so that peace and normal situation on the border are not adversely affected.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, in the talks, the two leaders agreed that special representatives of both the countries would meet soon to look into the management of peace and normal situation on the border and to consider border related issues.
In this meeting, there will be discussion on finding fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solutions to border related issues. Along with this, it was also agreed that relevant dialogue mechanisms at the level of foreign ministers and other officials will also be used to stabilize and normalize bilateral relations. Both the leaders emphasized that stable and cordial relations between India and China will have a positive impact not only on regional but also on world peace and prosperity.
Better relations between two neighbors and the two largest countries in the world will strengthen multipolar Asia and multipolar world. Both the leaders also emphasized that bilateral relations need to be taken forward from a strategic and long-term perspective.
For this, measures of cooperation should be found to face strategic mutual contact and development challenges. This was the first occasion after the summit in Mahabalipuram in October 2019, when the two leaders held bilateral talks. There was a situation of tension and confrontation on the Line of Actual Control since the military clash in the Galwan Valley area of East Ladakh in May–June 2020.
