The Punjab government has suspended 7 police officers and employees in the case of interviewing gangster Lawrence Bishnoi from jail. The government has taken this action on the orders of the Punjab-Haryana High Court.

Two interviews of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi went viral. According to the SIT report, the first interview took place on 3 and 4 September 2022. Lawrence was then in the CIA located in Kharar in Punjab. The second interview took place in the Central Jail in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Lawrence’s first interview was broadcast on 14 March 2023, in which he confessed to getting Sidhu Moosewala killed. Lawrence said that Sidhu Moosewala was getting into gang war instead of singing. Lawrence’s interviews were released on 14 and 17 March in the year 2023 after which questions were raised on the Punjab Police.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav claimed that the interview was not done from Bathinda or any jail in Punjab. However, the investigation made it clear that Lawrence’s interview was done in Kharar. In this case, the High Court had directed the Punjab government to take action in the matter and file a report.

On Friday night, Principal Secretary of Punjab Home Department Gurkirat Kripal Singh issued an order and suspended DSP Gursher Singh (9 Battalion based in Amritsar), DSP Samar Vaneet, Sub Inspector Reena (posted in CIA Kharar), Sub Inspector Jagatpal Jangu (posted in AGTF), Sub Inspector Shaganjit Singh (AGTF), ASI Mukhtiar Singh and Head Constable Om Prakash. The Punjab government will now file a report in the High Court in this matter.
