On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released a list of 40 star campaigners for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. This list includes the names of a total of 40 leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister and party’s national president JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The term of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will end on November 26. Voting will be held on November 20 for all 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra and October 29 is the last date for nomination. The result will be declared on November 23.
At present, the Mahayuti alliance (i.e. BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar’s NCP) is in power in Maharashtra. On the other hand, the opposition is Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress, Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray and NCP Sharadchandra Pawar). Maha Vikas Aghadi performed well in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
The constituent parties of the Maha Vikas Aghadi won 30 out of 48 seats. At the same time, the Mahayuti parties had to be content with 17 seats. In the Mahayuti, BJP, NCP and Shiv Sena (Shinde) will have to win at least 145 seats to save their government.
