Despite the strict rules of the government and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), planes are constantly receiving bomb threats. On Tuesday, more than 100 flights operated by Air India, Indigo and Vistara Airlines received bomb threats.
Most of these threats were given through social media platforms. According to the media reports, about 36 flights of Tata-led Air India and 35 flights of Indigo received bomb threats. Threats of bombs being planted in 32 flights of Vistara have also been received.
In the last 16 days, more than 510 domestic and international flights have received bomb threats. However, all these threats received by the airlines turned out to be fake in the investigation. Air India spokesperson said in a statement that most of their flights received bomb threats on social media. The spokesperson said that on receiving the threat, the concerned officials and departments were alerted under the prescribed protocol.
Along with this, security related investigations were done as per the guidelines of the regulatory authority. Visakhapatnam Airport Director Raja Reddy said in a statement that at around 5:38 pm today, IndiGo’s station manager informed his regional security head that he received a bomb threat tweet from an ID AdamLanza202, in which the sender has mentioned several flights of IndiGo Airlines including 6E917 MAA-VTZ.
The flights were shifted to the isolation bay and security checks are being done as per SOP. Meanwhile, an official said that Mumbai Police has registered a case against an unknown person after three airlines received bomb threats on their X handles.
He said that Air India, IndiGo and Vistara airlines received threats on Monday. However, all these turned out to be rumours. Mumbai Police has registered 14 FIRs in October in connection with bomb threats to airlines. It is worth mentioning that the Civil Aviation Ministry is also considering taking legislative action to deal with false bomb threats to aviation companies. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister K Ramamohan Naidu said in a statement that we will take strict action to ban criminals who give false bomb threats.
