Assembly elections are to be held in Jharkhand in November 2024. The present CM of the state, Hemant Soren, is in the electoral fray from Barhet seat. He has filed his nomination but as soon as he filed his nomination, questions have been raised about his age.
Hemant Soren has grown seven years in just five years which means that his age has increased by seven years in just five. According to the nomination filed by Hemant Soren, five years ago i.e. in the last assembly elections, CM Soren was 42 years old, but in this year’s nomination form his age has been stated as 49 years.
This has led to a controversy and questions are being raised. Hemant Soren is the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He has filed his nomination from Barhet seat of Sahebganj. On the other hand, BJP on Monday announced the candidature of Gamaliel Hembram from this seat. Hembrom was in the fray under the banner of AJSU in the 2019 state assembly elections. He got 2,573 votes in the 2019 elections. JMM is ruling in the state and is contesting this election in alliance with Congress
It is worth noting that counting of votes will be done in two phases for 81 assembly seats of the state. Voting will be held on 13 November in the first phase and on 20 November in the second phase. 805 candidates have filed nominations for the first phase and 643 in the second phase. In the first phase, nominations of 743 candidates were accepted. During scrutiny, nomination papers of 62 candidates were rejected. Scrutiny of nomination papers filed for the second phase will be done on Wednesday. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till 1 November.
