On Saturday, three terrorists were neutralised by security forces during encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag and Khanyar district. According to the media reports, one of the terrorists involved in the Anantnag encounter was a foreign national, while the other was a local resident. However, authorities have yet to confirm the specific group with which the terrorists were affiliated.
Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Srinagar’s Khanyar area, the first major clash in the city in nearly three years. A joint team of police and security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
Four police personnel sustained injuries, and one terrorist was neutralized in Khanyar. Security forces have initiated a combing and search operation in the Bandipora region of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the fourth terrorist-related incident reported in the Kashmir Valley since Friday. In Budgam district on Friday, two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh were shot and injured. Both were transported to JVC Hospital in Bemina, Srinagar, where they are presently undergoing treatment.
Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans and two policemen were injured in the exchange of fire. They were taken to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable. Earlier in October, terrorists targeted a construction site in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district, killing a doctor and six migrant workers.
On October 18, another attack occurred in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, where a migrant worker from Bihar was found dead with gunshot wounds. Locals discovered his body in the area. Meanwhile, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah said that these incidents could be aimed at destabilizing the newly formed government led by his son, Omar Abdullah, who took office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir last month. Farooq has called for an independent investigation into the attacks.
