Chhath Puja will not be held on the banks of Yamuna river in Delhi. Delhi High Court has refused to give permission for this. In the petition filed in the court, permission was sought for Chhath Puja on the banks of Yamuna.
The Delhi government has banned Chhath Puja on the banks of Yamuna. An organization named ‘Purvanchal Nav Nirman Sansthan’ had filed a petition in the High Court against this.
The High Court said that, ‘Chhath Puja is going on and we cannot give any order at the last moment. Yamuna cannot be cleaned overnight’. The High Court said that the water of Yamuna is so dirty that if people enter it and worship, they will fall ill. We cannot allow this. During the hearing, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the petitioner said that Chhath Puja is a festival of cleanliness.
The lawyer said, ‘This time, allow us to clean only the ghats, so that next year we can perform Chhath Puja there’. On this the High Court said that ‘You file a separate petition for cleaning the Yamuna bank. We will listen to you, but we cannot give any such order on this petition’.
