In the case of rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the father of the deceased doctor said that he has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has called him to meet him. However, he refused to give more information about the conversation with Shah and also did not tell when and where the meeting would take place.
The parents of the deceased had written a letter to Amit Shah on October 22, seeking time to meet him so that they could take his help to get justice. Earlier, the state BJP leaders had tried to arrange a meeting with Shah during his Kolkata visit on October 27, but it could not happen.
The parents of the deceased did not express disappointment over this and hoped that they could get an opportunity to meet the Home Minister in the future. The body of the female doctor posted on duty at RG Kar Hospital on August 9 was recovered from the seminar hall.
Junior doctors across West Bengal started a ‘work boycott’ demanding justice. After 42 days of agitation, the doctors called off their strike on September 21 on the assurance of the state government. The initial investigation into this heinous crime was done by the Kolkata Police, in which a civic volunteer was arrested. Later, on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, the investigation was handed over to the CBI.
