The Prime Minister accused the previous governments of ignoring the development of the tribal community and erasing their role in the freedom movement. He said that the previous governments never worked for the betterment of the tribal people. Without naming the Congress, the Prime Minister said that it is wrong to give credit for independence to only one party. He said that there were many tribal leaders who played an important role in the freedom struggle.
Modi said, “In the decades after independence, attempts were made to erase the invaluable contribution of tribal history. There was selfish politics behind this too. The politics was to give credit for India’s independence to only one party. But if only one party, only one family has brought independence, then why did Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s Ulgulan movement take place, what was the Santhal revolution, what was the Coal revolution?”
Prime Minister said that “It was the NDA government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that had created a separate ministry for tribal welfare. Ten years ago, the budget for the development of tribal areas and tribal families was less than Rs 25,000 crore. Our government has increased it 5 times to Rs 1.25 lakh crore”.
He said that “A few days ago we have started a special scheme Dharti Aba, Janjati Gram, Utkarsh Abhiyan for the development of more than 60,000 tribal villages of the country. Under this, an investment of about 80,000 crore rupees will be made in tribal villages. Its objective is to provide necessary facilities to the tribal society as well as to create training and employment opportunities for the youth”.
PM Modi said that “The tribal society made Prince Ram as Lord Ram. The tribal society led the fight for hundreds of years to protect the culture and independence of India. He said that our government has also taken many steps to preserve the tribal heritage. Many people dedicated to tribal art and culture have been awarded the Padma Award. We started a huge museum in the name of Lord Birsa Munda in Ranchi”.
The Prime Minister said that the tribal society also has a huge contribution in the ancient medical system of India. This heritage is also being protected and new dimensions are also being added for the future generation. He said that sickle cell anemia has been a big challenge for the tribal society. Our government has launched a national campaign to deal with it, which has been started a year ago. During this period, about 4.5 crore people have been screened. A large number of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are being built so that tribal families do not have to go far for the checkup of other diseases.
