On Sunday, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu honoured Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger’ award. Earlier, this honour has been given only to Queen Elizabeth. Prime Minister Modi is the second foreign leader to receive this honour.
Notably, earlier in 1969, the Queen of Britain was honoured with this honour. This is the 17th such international award given to Prime Minister Modi by any country. Describing it as a moment of pride, Prime Minister Modi said, “I accept it very humbly and dedicate it to the people of India.” In his address on this occasion, the Prime Minister said that the relations between India and Nigeria are based on mutual cooperation, harmony and mutual respect.
He said, “As two vibrant democracies and dynamic economies, we have been working together for the welfare of the people of both the countries. He said that India and Nigeria will move forward together for the prosperity of the people of both the countries and the entire African continent. We will give importance to the interests and priorities of the Global South, working in close coordination”.
PM Modi further added, “He said that Nigeria has played a very big and positive role in Africa and close cooperation with Africa has been a high priority for India”. Giving information about his talks, the Prime Minister said that we discussed in detail on making mutual cooperation more robust and comprehensive. “New possibilities have been identified in the fields of economy, energy, agriculture, security, fintech, small and medium industries and culture”, said PM Modi.
Meanwhile on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi , who is on a three-country visit, landed in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit on November 18 and 19. Prime Minister Modi arrived in the South American country on the second leg of his three-nation tour after concluding a visit to Nigeria, where he held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and interacted with the Indian diaspora.
