The bodies of the five Naxalites killed in an encounter with security forces in Maad area of Kanker district on Saturday have been identified. According to the police officials, each of them had a reward of Rs 8 lakh on their head. All of them, including the DVCM commander, are said to be Naxalites of Company No. 10.
Among the killed Naxalites is Vanoja Micha Karam, a female Naxalite, DVCM commander in the North South Division Press Team, age 42 years, resident of Bhairamgarh Bijapur. She used to carry an INSAS rifle with her. The Naxalite killed in the encounter, Santosh Korchami, age about 35 years, was on the post of PM in the Division Stop Team. He was a resident of Shivgatta village of Chirpoli of Dhanora police station.
He used to carry a single shot weapon with him. The third Naxalite killed has been identified as Manesh alias Kaju Sainu Paddha, age about 35 years. He was a resident of Gondawahi in Gadchiroli district and was a PM member in PLGA Company No. 10. He used to carry a 12 bore gun. Another killed Naxalite has been identified as 30-year-old Suresh alias Nagesh Gawade, a resident of Nainer village in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.
He was on the post of PM in the North South Division and used to carry a 12 bore gun. Another female Naxalite killed in the encounter has been identified as Punita, around 21 years old. She used to carry SBL weapons with her. Punita was a resident of Bastar. She was also on the post of PM. The weapons recovered from the encounter site include a BGL launcher, an SLR, an INSAS rifle, three 12 bore guns. According to police officials, this encounter took place under the operation being conducted against the Naxalites. This is a big success for the security forces. These five Naxalites had been a challenge for the security forces for a long time.
