Telangana government has decided to give 100 % discount on road tax and vehicle registration fee. On Monday, State Transport Minister P. Prabhakar said that a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy has been formulated to reduce pollution.
This new policy has come into effect from today. Minister Prabhakar said that this policy will be applicable to vehicles of all companies. The previous government had made this policy for a limited number of vehicles. The new policy brought by the Congress government has announced the removal of the limit on the number of vehicles.
Prabhakar discussed the new policy during a meeting with officials at the Secretariat. It will be applicable to all registered electric vehicles in the state till December 31, 2026. This deadline can be extended if needed. He said that if two-wheelers, cars, autos, RTC, IT, pharma and other companies buy electric buses for transporting their employees, then we will give 100 percent % on road tax and registration fee.
Special Chief Secretary of Transport Department Vikas Raj, Commissioner Surendra Mohan, Transport Commissioner (JTS) Ramesh and other officials were present in the meeting. The minister said that according to the current rules, a driver has to pay two % additional tax on purchasing a second vehicle, but now those who buy a second electric vehicle will not have to pay two % additional tax.
100 % exemption has been announced on road tax and registration fee for electric vehicles – two-wheelers, cars, commercial passenger vehicles such as taxis, tourist cabs, three-wheelers, light goods vehicles, tractors and buses.
