PM Narendra Modi has reached Brazil to take part in the G-20 summit. He is meeting leaders from all over the world here. PM Modi also met UK PM Keir Starmer on Tuesday. During this, PM Modi congratulated Keir Starmer on assuming office.
UK PM Keir Starmer wished PM Modi for his third term. Notably, both the leaders met for the first time. During the meeting, PM Modi raised the issue of fugitives like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi in front of the UK PM. Both the leaders have also agreed on the need to speed up the process related to the migration of these fugitives.
It is being said that Britain can soon take action against these two fugitives. Nirav Deepak Modi is an Indian businessman. He is absconding from the country in an Indian money laundering and fraud case. Nirav Deepak Modi is accused of corruption, money laundering, fraud and embezzlement.
These allegations have been leveled against him by Interpol and the Government of India. Nirav Modi is being investigated in a case of Punjab National Bank’s $2 billion fraud case. In March 2018, it was reported that he is in the UK and has applied for political asylum there.
Vijay Mallya is also an Indian businessman and former MP. He is accused of being a ‘wilful defaulter’ under Indian law for the collapse of the Kingfisher company. Allegations of money laundering and fraud have also been included in this.
