The Waqf Board in Karnataka is continuing its arbitrariness, but now the lawyers have also come out on the streets in protest against the Waqf Board. The Mysore Bar Association has supported the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 of the Central Government.
Its members took out a rally in support of the bill. Slogans were also raised against the arbitrariness being done by the Waqf Board. This rally was taken out in support of the Waqf Bill under the leadership of Mysore Bar Association President S Lokesh.
The member of the Mysore Bar Association said that the current Waqf law is not in the interest of the country, so the central government should not come under pressure from any party or side and amend the Waqf Bill. The Waqf Board has claimed its right over the lands of farmers in the state, a protest was held against it. Former MP Pratap Singh, who participated in the demonstration of the Bar Association, accused the notification of 600 acres of land in Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts as Waqf Board land.
He alleged that the Waqf Board is occupying government lands. This is being done only due to CM Siddaramaiah’s policy of appeasement. The former MP said that the gazette notification of 1965 was issued, but even after that the Waqf’s intentions were not successful, but after the Congress government came to power in the state, the Waqf Board started making claims on the lands.
In recent times the Waqf Board has claimed that 1500 acres of farmers’ land in Vijaypur belongs to it. Not only this, the Waqf Board claims that 17 properties of Bidar Fort, farmers’ land in Gadag district and many properties in Kodagu and Bengaluru belong to it. In Vijaypur district alone, the Waqf Board has occupied 14,200 acres of land. This has been revealed in a report.
