Veerangana Jhalkari Bai, born on November 22, 1830, in Jhansi, was a courageous commander of the Durga Dal, the women’s wing of Rani Lakshmibai’s army during the First War of Independence in 1857. Skilled in horse riding and weaponry, she became a trusted ally of Rani Lakshmibai.
