New Delhi, 24 December (H.S.): On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann appealed to the Central government to engage in talks with the farmers who have been protesting at the state’s border since February 13, over a number of issues, including a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.
The farmers, who are being led by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have set up camp at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana. The protest was initiated after their march to Delhi was obstructed by security forces.
Farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on hunger strike at the Khanauri border since November 26, in an attempt to put pressure on the Centre to address the demands of the farmers.
