Bhopal, 3 January (H.S.): The four-day 31st National Children’s Science Congress will begin today at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate it. More than 700 young scientists, their teachers and mentors from across the country will participate in it. Along with this, child scientists from six Gulf countries like Bahrain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia will also give their presentation.
Director General of Council of Science and Technology Anil Kothari said that the objective of the program is to encourage scientific thinking in children and inspire them to contribute to science, innovation and technical field. The main theme of the National Children’s Science Congress this year is “Understanding the ecosystem for health and well-being”.
The theme has been divided into five sub-themes, which include understanding ecosystem, promoting nutrition and health, ecological approach to self-reliance, technological innovation and socio-cultural practices. Kothari said that many attractive activities and exhibitions will be organized during the program, including Chandrayaan Mission Exhibition, Water Rocketry, Robotics, Hydroponics, Environmental Snakes and Ladders, Cheetah Conservation Exhibition and folk songs based on scientific awareness.
Leading scientists of the country like Dr. Chetan Solanki (IIT Mumbai), Dr. Nand Kumar (AIIMS Delhi) and Dr. Chaitanya Puri (IISER Pune) will interact with the students. He said that National Child Development Congress is a national science communication program. It was started in 1993. It is a platform operated under the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, which provides children in the age group of 10-17 years an opportunity to develop a scientific attitude, display creativity and innovation.
Automation of Varah Mihir Observatory will also be inaugurated Chief Minister Dr. Yadav will also inaugurate the automation of Varah Mihir Astronomical Observatory. This will give Madhya Pradesh a new identity in the field of science and astronomy. Due to automation, common citizens will now be able to use the telescope of the observatory sitting at home.
