Bhopal, January 4 (H.S.): Madhya Pradesh is taking important steps towards wildlife tourism. Under this, the wildlife tourism campaign is going to start here from today (Saturday). Under this campaign, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will visit the Chambal Sanctuary and observe the arrangements of the Gharial Sanctuary of Chambal River and take stock of the tourism facilities.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav has said that nature has given many blessings to Madhya Pradesh. Along with dense forests, diversity of trees, diversity of wildlife is also seen in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh has a distinct identity due to forests and wildlife. Madhya Pradesh is the state with the highest number of animals like tiger, leopard and gharial. Madhya Pradesh is the only state to restore cheetah.
He said that not only in the country but in the whole world, the maximum number of gharials are found in the Chambal River. He said that there are about three thousand gharials in the world, out of which 85 percent are in the Chambal river. The National Chambal Sanctuary is also known as the National Chambal Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is spread over an area of about five and a half square kilometers. This land is filled with the banks of the Chambal river like hills and sandy beaches. It is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and its headquarters is in Morena.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the best time to visit the Gharial Sanctuary in Chambal is from October to June. Winter is considered the best time to see gharials and visit this area. There are many activities to see nature in the National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary. Photography of gharials, dolphins, other reptiles, water bodies and beautiful landscapes can be done by boat ride. Walking on the trails along the valleys and rivers here gives an opportunity to see nature closely. The Chambal river is about a thousand kilometers long. Tourists can enjoy the Chambal Gharial Safari Sanctuary by using the accommodation facility in the nearby towns of the said area.
