Dima Hasao (Assam), 09 January (HS): On the fourth day of the coal mine accident in 3 Kilo, Assam-Meghalaya border area, 25 km from Umrangsu in the hilly district of Dima Hasao, the rescue operation was resumed this morning with the help of divers. Sonar equipment aids ongoing rescue amid rising water.
On the third day of the accident, divers had taken out a body from the mine in the morning. After that, the operation did not get any success throughout the day.
Inspector Roshan Kumar Singh, team Commander of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), said that despite searching the vertical area and using heavy pumps to remove water, the water level has not decreased at the mining accident site. Navy, Army, NDRF, SDRF and other agencies are engaged in relief and rescue work. Due to rain in the area, there are difficulties in the rescue operation. NDRF sources have told that the mine is 200 meters deep. Which was initially reported to be 300 meters. The coal mine is still filled with 50 to 60 feet of water. Efforts are being made to get them out.
According to the information, the pump of Coal India is also likely to arrive from Kolkata today. At the same time, efforts are on to remove water from the mine through pumps of Oil India as well as other agencies including the district administration. Despite all the efforts, the water is not decreasing rapidly, but the pace of increase is also not fast. Due to which the agencies running the operation are seeing a ray of hope in the rescue work.
According to the divers running the operation, nothing has been found inside the mine as many times as it was investigated. Probably the miners are inside the rat hole, so finding them inside the mine is a big challenge. It is believed that with the decrease in water, the search operation can be carried out in a better way.
It is worth mentioning that the miners working inside the coal mine got trapped due to sudden filling of water on Monday. Their exact number has not been revealed formally. However, it is being said that 11 people are trapped inside. In which the body of one person has been recovered, who was originally from the neighboring country Nepal. He has been identified as Rajen Sherch (42, District-Udaipur, Nepal).
