In a significant move to safeguard students’ interests, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has released its updated list of 21 fake universities operating across India in 2025. These institutions, spread across multiple states and union territories, have been found awarding degrees without proper accreditation or authorization. Students are strongly advised to verify the authenticity of any university through the official UGC website before seeking admission to avoid being duped.
Fake universities are institutions that falsely claim to be accredited and authorized to offer degrees. These organizations mislead students by offering certificates and diplomas that hold no academic or professional value. They often use official-sounding names, creating confusion and exploiting the trust of unsuspecting students. The UGC regularly updates and publishes lists of fake universities to inform and protect students. In its latest release, 21 institutions have been identified as fake and unrecognized.
These universities operate illegally, and their degrees are not valid for academic or employment purposes. Out of the 21 fake universities identified, Delhi hosts the highest number with eight institutions operating without accreditation. These include: All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences, Commercial University Limited, Daryaganj, ADR Centric Juridical University, Indian Institute of Sciences and Engineering,Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment, Spiritual University, United Nations University, Vocational University, How to Protect Yourself from Fake Universities.
