A 10-year-old girl was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, the police said on Monday. According to officials, the incident occurred in the Timmapuram village in the limits of Chintalnar police station on Sunday. The IED was planted by the Maoists, they said.
The girl, identified as Sodhi Malle (10) a resident of the village of Timmapuram, was provided with first-aid. The girl is reportedly out of danger. Meanwhile, Chintalnar police have launched an investigation in connection with the incident. Earlier on Sunday, two police personnel were injured in an IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur on Sunday, the police said. According to the police, the blast was carried out by the Maoists.
The incident took place while a team of Kutru Police Station and District Reserve Guard were carrying out area domination duty. The injured were being treated at Bijapur District Hospital, and the injured jawans were out of danger, police said. Significantly, nine people, including eight Dantewada District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and one driver, lost their lives after their vehicle was hit by a strong explosion executed by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday, January 12 saluted the courage of the security forces after they neutralised five Maoists following an exchange of fire in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur. Speaking to ANI, Sai said “We salute the courage of our security forces. Our security forces have been fighting strongly against Naxalism (Maoism) for the last one year and have also been succeeding which has been praised by everyone. Our Prime Minister is working on ending Naxalism by 2026 and his mission will definitely be achieved.”.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, Jitendra Yadav, “Five Naxalites (Maoists) were killed in an encounter with security forces. The bodies of 2 female naxals and 3 male naxals have been recovered. The identification of the deceased is yet to be done.”
