New Delhi, 13 January (H.S.): Delhi Police have opposed the plea of AIMIM candidate and accused of 2020 North-East Delhi riots Tahir Hussain in the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail for election campaign. During the hearing, Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said that if you only have to file a nomination, then you can do it from jail as well. The interim bail plea will also be heard on January 14.
During the hearing, Delhi Police opposed the interim bail plea for election campaign and said that Amritpal Singh had also filed nomination from jail. The lawyer appearing on behalf of Tahir Hussain said that MP Engineer Rashid was granted interim bail for election campaign while a case of terror funding is also going on against him. It was said on behalf of Tahir Hussain that he has been made a candidate by a national party. He is ready to give details of all his assets. He also has to find a proposer for himself and the election process has started in Delhi. Further the court ordered to hear the case tomorrow i.e. on January 14.
On Monday itself, Tahir Hussain’s petition was also heard in Karkardooma Court. When the Karkardooma Court was told that the High Court is also hearing the matter, the Karkardooma Court postponed the hearing and said that the order of the High Court should be awaited. Tahir Hussain has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail for election campaign.
Justice Amit Sharma, who was hearing the matter on January 10, recused himself from the hearing. After that this petition was sent to the bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna for hearing. On December 24, 2024, while hearing the bail plea filed by Tahir Hussain in the murder case of IB officer Ankit Sharma, notice was issued to Delhi Police. By filing a new petition in this bail petition, Tahir Hussain has sought interim bail for election campaign. Tahir Hussain has been made the candidate from Mustafabad in North-East Delhi by AIMIM.
Tara Narula, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Tahir Hussain, said that the trial in this case has started and out of 114 witnesses of the prosecution, 20 witnesses have been examined so far. In such a situation, the trial is not likely to be completed soon. He said that Tahir Hussain has been in custody for more than four years and nine months.
Ravindra Kumar, father of IB officer Ankit Sharma, came to Dayalpur police station and said that his son had gone to buy some goods in the evening after returning from his office on February 2, 2020. When Ankit Sharma did not come for a long time, his father searched for him at many places including hospitals. After waiting till night, he filed a missing report. He later came to know from some locals that a person had been thrown into the Khajuri Khas drain from the mosque of chand Bagh Pulia after being murdered. Ankit’s body was recovered from the Khajuri Khas drain.
During the investigation, the police found in the post-mortem report of Ankit Sharma that there were 51 sharp and blunt weapons had been used on his body. After that, the investigation of this case was handed over to the SIT of the Crime Branch on 28 February 2020.
According to Delhi Police, debris, stones, bricks, broken bottles, bullets and some burnt things were found in the house of the main accused Tahir Hussain and its surrounding areas. Tahir Hussain’s house was used by the rioters to throw bricks and stones. Slingshots, stones, petrol bottles were found on the third-floor terrace of Tahir Hussain’s house.
