New Delhi, 16 January (H.S.): Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Thursday again postponed the decision on the closure report filed by Delhi Police in the POCSO case registered against former Indian Wrestling Association president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The court ordered to pronounce the decision on the closure report on April 15.
The court has postponed the decision several times before this. The court had reserved the decision on August 1, 2023. During the hearing, the victim minor wrestler and her father expressed satisfaction over the police investigation. Both the minor wrestler and her father recorded their statements in-camera. In-camera means that no one other than the two parties is present at the time of hearing.
While hearing the closure report of Delhi Police, the court had issued a notice to the complainant minor wrestler on July 4, 2023. On June 15, 2023, Delhi Police filed a report in Patiala House Court and gave a clean chit to Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. Delhi Police have given a clean chit to Brijbhushan Sharan Singh in the case registered under the POCSO Act on the complaint of the minor wrestler and has sought quashing of the charges. Delhi Police said that no concrete evidence has been found against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh in the POCSO case.
A case is also going on against Brijbhushan in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court regarding allegations of sexual exploitation of female wrestlers. Rouse Avenue Court has started trial in this case from July 26. On June 15, 2023, Delhi Police filed a charge sheet in Rouse Avenue Court. The charge sheet has charges under sections 354, 354D, 354A and 506 (1) of the Indian Penal Code.
