Bhubaneswar, 20 January (H.S.): A fierce gunfight erupted between security forces and Maoists on Monday morning near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, officials reported.
Based on intelligence inputs, police teams from Odisha and Chhattisgarh, supported by the CRPF, initiated an anti-Naxal operation in the Kularighat reserve forest, situated on the inter-state border.
The forest falls within Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, which borders Odisha’s Nuapada district.
“The exchange of fire is ongoing between security forces and Maoists,” confirmed an officer from the Odisha Police.
