On Sunday, India celebrates 75 years of democratic republic with grand celebrations set at Kartavya Path for the ceremonial parade. The event will showcase the country’s military prowess and rich cultural heritage. In addition to VVIP dignitaries, nearly 10,000 special guests have been invited to witness the 76th Republic Day Parade. These guests include members of the Paralympic contingent, sarpanches from top-performing villages, handloom artisans, and forest and wildlife conservation workers.
President Droupadi Murmu will lead the nation in celebrating this occasion, with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest. A marching contingent and a band contingent from Indonesia will also participate in the parade.
Ahead of the Republic Day parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Republic Day greetings and wrote on X, “Happy Republic Day. Today, we celebrate 75 glorious years of being a Republic. We bow to all the great women and men who made our Constitution and ensured that our journey is rooted in democracy, dignity and unity. May this occasion strengthen our efforts towards preserving the ideals of our Constitution and working towards a stronger and prosperous India.”

The Republic Day parade will be led by Parade Commander Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area, a second-generation officer. Major General Sumit Mehta, Chief of Staff, HQ Delhi Area will be the Parade Second-in-Command, as per the Press Information Bureau.
The winners of the highest gallantry awards will follow them and will include Param Vir Chakra winners Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav (Retd) & Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar (Retd), and Ashok Chakra winner Lt Col Jas Ram Singh (Retd). The Param Vir Chakra is a coveted award for an act of immense bravery while the Ashok Chakra is bestowed for act of valour and self-sacrifice, when confronted with an enemy.
