Beirut/Gaza Strip, January 27 (HS): Violence is going on in Lebanon and Gaza despite the ceasefire. Lebanese officials said that Israeli forces killed at least 22 people in southern Lebanon yesterday, while in Gaza Israel stopped Palestinians from returning to the north. Israel says that Hamas is continuously violating the terms of the ceasefire.
According to the news of The New York Times, on Sunday, when thousands of displaced Lebanese came on the roads leading to their homes, the Israeli army started firing. The Israeli army said in a statement that a vehicle with the flag of the terrorist group Hezbollah came near their soldiers. Due to this, firing had to be done. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that more than 120 people were injured in this firing.
The ceasefire in Lebanon was signed in November. It was decided that Israel and Hezbollah would withdraw from southern Lebanon. After this, UN peacekeepers will be deployed.
Meanwhile, Israel stopped Palestinians from returning to their homes, saying that Hamas has violated the ceasefire. Israel is also upset that Arbel Yehud (the last female civilian hostage) has not been released yet. Israel believes that she is probably alive. Meanwhile, Palestinian Islamic Jihad said that ‘Arbel Yehud is in its possession, not Hamas’. It will release Arbel Yehud before Saturday.
