Shimla, 3 February (HS): Earthquake jolts have struck Himachal Pradesh amidst the biting cold. Mild earthquake jolted the hilly district of Kullu on Monday morning. The earthquake’s intensity was 3.4 on the Richter scale. These jolts lasted for a few seconds at 6:50 am. Its effect was also felt in the areas adjoining Kullu district.
According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, the epicenter of the earthquake was at 31.76 degrees north latitude and 77.49 degrees east longitude in Kullu and its depth was recorded at five kilometers below the ground surface. There has been no loss of life or property due to the earthquake jolts.
An official of the State Disaster Management Authority said that due to the low intensity of the earthquake, there is no report of any kind of damage in Kullu district and adjoining areas.
Earlier, low intensity earthquakes have hit Mandi, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur districts adjoining Kullu district several times. However, no damage was caused during this time.
The frequent occurrence of earthquakes in Himachal Pradesh is creating panic among the people. Earthquakes have been occurring here for the last several years.
Himachal Pradesh is included in the highly sensitive zones 4 and 5 in terms of earthquakes. Mild earthquakes have been felt here for many years. In the year 1905, more than 10 thousand people were killed in the devastating earthquake in Kangra and Chamba districts.
Clouds will rain in Himachal for the next two days, alert issuedAccording to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Center Shimla, the weather will change from today due to the activity of Western Disturbance in the state. Especially, heavy rain and snowfall is expected in the next two days. In the next 24 hours i.e. on February 4, a warning of thunderstorm and lightning has been issued in all the other 10 districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. The weather is expected to remain clear from February 6 to 9.
