The event also featured the Astra Missile, Naval Anti-Ship Missile, AI-powered drones, and anti-drone radar systems, further cementing India’s growing defense capabilities. The 15th edition of Aero India in Bengaluru featured some of the world’s most advanced aircraft, including Russia’s Su-57E and the USA’s F-35, performing breathtaking aerial maneuvers at the mega event on February 10.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who inaugurated the five-day event, reaffirmed India’s commitment to boosting domestic defense manufacturing and exports. One of the highlights was the unveiling of India’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).
India’s AMCA: A Stealth Fighter for the Future
The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is an indigenous stealth fighter developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Weighing 25 tonnes, it features twin engines and a 6.5-tonne internal fuel capacity. Its advanced stealth capabilities are designed to meet the challenges of modern warfare, with the project’s initial cost estimated at ₹15,000 crore.
The AMCA includes an AI-powered Electronic Pilot for enhanced decision-making, Netcentric Warfare Systems for real-time combat coordination, and an internal weapons bay that can carry four long-range air-to-air missiles and precision-guided munitions with a 1,500 kg payload, according to The Indian Express.
Unlike Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), fifth-generation fighters like the AMCA have a low electromagnetic signature, making them harder to detect. With its development, India joins an elite group of nations that have built fifth-generation stealth aircraft, including the USA (F-22 Raptor, F-35), China (J-20), and Russia (Su-57).
