PM Modi was greeted with a warm welcome as he landed in Washington. PM Modi landed at Joint Base Andrews in Washington DC in the early hours of Thursday (IST), on his first trip to the US since President Donald Trump assumed office for his second term.

On the first day of his US visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard. PM Modi congratulated Tulsi Gabbard, who was confirmed as the US Intel chief a day ago. He said that they discussed various aspects of the India-US ties. PM Modi’s visit to the US comes following a two-day France trip, during which he held bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed several issues, including collaboration on AI and civil nuclear energy.
Ahead of his visit, the prime minister remarked that he was looking forward to meeting his “friend” Donald Trump and recalled working together in Trump’s first term to build a global partnership. PM added that the trip was an “opportunity to build upon the successes of our collaboration in his first term and develop an agenda to further elevate and deepen our partnership.”

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump and visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a press conference when they meet in Washington. The White House said, “Their joint press conference with Trump is set for 1710 ET (0340 IST)”. Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will likely hold discussions focused on enhancing intelligence cooperation in counter-terrorism, cybersecurity and emerging threats. Additionally, the meeting between the two leaders comes amid tensions surrounding Trump’s trade tariffs on several countries, his controversial Gaza peace plan, and mass deportation of illegal immigrants. These issues are likely to feature in their discussions as both leaders seek to strengthen bilateral ties.
