Imphal, 14 February (HS): Security forces conducted a search operation in sensitive areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur. During this, a large quantity of weapons and ammunition were recovered.
Police said on Friday that a modified .303 sniper rifle, four pistols (including magazines), two SBBL guns, one long-range projectile launcher (pumpi), two long-range projectile launchers (bombs), two hand grenades (36 types), two modified hand grenades, one hand grenade lever, one Baofeng wireless set, one UV-10R wireless set, 1 stun shell, one cartridge 38 mm anti-riot and 10 SBBL bullets were recovered from New Keethelmanbi police station area, between Aigejang Nepali Kuti (Aigejang Ridge) in Kangpokpi district.
An assault rifle (7.62 mm Type B1), one magazine (Type B1-1), seven live cartridges (7.62 mm), one locally made mortar (pumpi), one live bomb (local mortar pumpi), three live cartridges (9 mm) and three Baofeng radio sets were recovered from Chakpikarong police station area, between K. Jeljang and Taizang in Chandel district.
In a separate case, five people were arrested. According to information, Manipur Police has arrested five people based on a video viral on social media. In the video, 10-15 people were seen in camouflage clothes and football kits carrying weapons. The incident took place at K. Gamnomphai village is ground in Kangpokpi district, where weapons were brandished during a football match.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mangtinlen Kipzen alias Baimang (26), Mangtinlen Kipzen (24), Saithenmangin Kipzen (28), Lunmingsei Kipzen (21) and Lunkhogin Kipzen (24). Police investigation is underway.
