Several buses exploded in the Israeli city Bat Yam, a city outside Tel Aviv, leading to bursting into flames on the night of Thursday and Friday. The incident is suspected to be a terror attack. The Israeli forces immediately gathered to investigate the explosion, deploying large police forces to the scene to search for suspects.
According to the media reports, the eyewitnesses shared video footage on social media, showing plumes of black smoke billowing from a parking lot in Bat Yam, with one bus engulfed in fire. Authorities have reported no casualties so far.
City Mayor Tzvika Brot confirmed that there were no casualties during the incident. The head of the bus company said they immediately ordered all bus drivers to stop and conduct a thorough inspection and resume their routes after finishing it.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ’s office said that the PM was receiving updates from his military secretary following the events. The incident has sparked widespread concern, with authorities urging the public to avoid the surrounding areas.
In response to the attack, Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev has stopped the operation of all buses, trains, and light rail trains to check for possible explosive devices. The Israeli Police Spokesperson’s Unit said, “Multiple reports have been received of explosions involving several buses at different locations in Bat Yam. Large police forces are at the scenes, searching for suspects. Police bomb disposal units are scanning for additional suspicious objects”.
The explosion in the buses is the latest in a series of increasing tensions between Israel and Palestinian militant groups. In recent months, the region has witnessed an increase in violence, including the horrific October 7 attacks, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 people.
The October 7 attacks, carried out by Hamas and other militant groups, include coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life.
