Maha Kumbh 2025, the world’s biggest religious gathering where crores of devotees take a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, is coming towards its end on February 26. It has been reported that a total of 13 FIRs have been registered against 140 social media handles for objectionable videos and misleading content.
“Legal action is being taken by Kumbh Mela Police by registering FIR (First Information Reports) against 31 social media accounts identified so far for spreading rumours by misleadingly claiming that a video made by a vlogger while train surfing in Bangladesh is the last way to reach Maha Kumbh. Please do not post any misleading posts on social media without verifying the facts,” Kumbh Mela Police warned in a tweet on X (earlier Twitter).
Cases Filed Against 140 Social Media Handles for Misleading Content
The Uttar Pradesh Police has filed cases against two social media accounts for uploading objectionable videos of women bathing during the Maha Kumbh and then putting them on sale.
On February 17, one case was filed against an Instagram account and another was filed against a Telegram channel on February 19. Legal actions have been started against this channel, and further investigations are ongoing. There have been number of instances concerning Maha Kumbh.
Recently, a video of a burning train went viral as well. It was alleged that the incident happened in Prayagraj and incidences took the lives of 300 people. The police filed a formal complaint against 34 social media accounts. A similar fake news of individuals dying from heart attacks during Maha Kumbh was also circulating on social media earlier.
Maha Kumbh 2025: Preparations Underway for Snan on Shivratri
Seven trains, including the Howrah-Mumbai Mail (12321), passing through Nashik Road railway station will be cancelled between February 25 and 26 from their point of origin.
Officials said the decision was taken to make way for special trains operating for the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, according to the Central Railway’s Bhusawal division authorities.
A railway official said, “This has been done to make available rakes and routes for the movement of special trains to and from Prayagraj. Similarly, routes of the five trains passing through Nashik Road railway station have been changed during the period”.
The Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Patliputra Express will be cancelled for journeys on February 25 and 26. The LTT-Gorakhpur Express will not operate on February 26, and the Patliputra-LTT Express will be cancelled for its journey starting on February 26 and 27, according to the official.
On Saturday, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that unexpectedly 60 crore devotees at the Maha Kumbh Mela have taken a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam.
The government had anticipated a footfall of 45 crore people when the Maha Kumbh started, but the count has already surpassed the 60-crore mark. Notably, the government officials said that the count of devotees is expected to cross 65 crore mark by the final snan on February 26. Notably, the Kumbh Mela started on January 13.
