On Tuesday, twelve Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, including former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, were suspended for the day from the Assembly session due to an uproar over the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report on the now-scrapped liquor policy scam, which led to the arrest of several top leaders, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal.
The report has been tabled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. As the session started for the day, Lt Governor VK Saxena addressed the House. However, his speech was disrupted by AAP legislators as they resorted to loud sloganeering against the BJP government.
Speaker Vijender Gupta made requests multiple times to the MLAs to remain calm, but they continued to disrupt the Lt Governor’s speech. As a result, the Speaker suspended the legislators for the day. As the MLAs staged a sit-in at the Assembly premises following their suspension, Atishi alleged that the BJP had disrespected BR Ambedkar by removing his portrait from the Chief Minister’s office.

“The BJP has shown its true colours by removing Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portrait. Does the party believe that (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi can replace Babasaheb?” she told reporters. The Leader of the Opposition added, “We will keep protesting until the portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar is put in its place”
The suspended AAP lawmakers raised “Babashaeb ka ye apman nahin sahega Hindustan (India will not tolerate this insult to Babasaheb)” slogans. The scam, which involved irregularities in the formulation of the now-defunct liquor policy for 2021-22, also led to the arrests of Kejriwal’s former deputy Manish Sisodia, former minister Satyendar Jain, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
