Actress Preity Zinta has set the record straight following her name popped up in the recent New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. row. Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, the actress shut down rumours of her ₹18 Crore loan being written off. In a strongly worded message, she condemned the Kerala Congress for spreading fake news and rumours about the matter.
On Monday, Preity Zinta responded to the reports of her taking a loan of huge sum from the troubled New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. and had it written off. A ‘spot inspection’ of the bank’s books revealed significant lapses from the bank management which led to an inspection by the RBI.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken action against New India Co-operative Bank due to alleged financial misappropriation by some of its staff. Amid this one of the most high-profile names in the bank books was the Bollywood actress who was alleged of getting her ₹18 Crore loan ‘written off’ without adhering to standard recovery procedures.
The official account of Kerala Congress posted this information without any verification of the claims on their official social media account along with Preity Zinta’s name and photo. This initiated a strong response from the actress.
Replying to the post she wrote, “No I operate my social media accounts my self and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS ! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images.”
Setting the record straight, Preity wrote, “For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK – over 10 years ago. Hope this clarifies and helps so there are no misunderstandings in the future.”
In a media statement, Preity Zinta through her legal team, shared, “More than 12 years ago, I had an overdraft facility with the New India Cooperative Bank. More than 10 years ago, I repaid in full the entire dues in respect of this overdraft facility, and the account stands closed.”
Preity is one of the most well-known actresses in the Hindi film industry and has relocated to the USA following her wedding with Gene Goodenough in 2016. Presently, she is in India to shoot for the film Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan productions.
