New Delhi, 25 February (HS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday presented gallantry, distinguished service and meritorious service medals to Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. Prior to the ceremony, the Defence Minister inspected the ceremonial guard.
The Defence Minister presented the President’s Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) and Tatrakshak Medal (TM) to ICG personnel in recognition of their exemplary service, acts of valour and selfless dedication to duty. A total of 32 awards were presented at the ceremony, including 06 PTMs for distinguished service, 11 TMs for gallantry and 15 TMs for commendable service. These awards are testimony to the unflinching courage, valour and commitment of ICG personnel whose contribution has been vital to the safety and security of India’s vast maritime borders.
Commander Amit Uniyal of ICG said that the conferment of these prestigious medals not only recognises the individual valour of the awardees but is also a morale booster for the entire Indian Coast Guard. It highlights the vital role played by the ICG in safeguarding the maritime interests of the country. The recognition of the brave men and women will motivate them to continue their mission of excellence while ensuring maritime security, especially amidst the ever-evolving challenges at sea.
In keeping with ICG traditions, the families of the awardees were interacted with by the Defence Minister and Director General Indian Coast Guard at the closing ceremony. This important event not only honoured exemplary individuals but also reinforced the pride and dedication of the Indian Coast Guard in its relentless endeavour to safeguard the maritime interests of the nation. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Indian Coast Guard Director General Parmesh Sivamani along with senior government officials, senior ICG officials and family members of the awardees were present at the 18th Indian Coast Guard Investiture Ceremony of the ICG.
