On the concluding day of Maha Kumbh 2025, Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar shared how his team used world-class technologies and AI for better crowd management and surveillance in Prayagraj. He thanked all agencies involved for their cooperation.
“We had full faith, it’s not a challenge but an opportunity for us our personnel worked on the ground for 45 days straight and they were trained for two months before the Maha Kumbh 2025 began. We have set many examples which will inspire the generations to come,” he said.
He further added that the security arrangements will stay in place for a few more days till the administration dismantle all the apparatus. “Personally, it is a matter of pride and an unforgettable experience,” Kumar rejoiced.
On Wednesday, over 81.9 lakh of devotees gathered at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take a holy dip at Maha Kumbh on the occasion of Maha Shivratri as the 45-day grand celebration ends.
Around midnight, many devotees gathered on the banks of the Sangam, setting up camp and waiting for the ‘Brahma Muhurt’ to take their holy dip. The Maha Kumbh Mela consists of six special bathing dates: Paush Purnima (January 13), Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12), and Mahashivratri (February 26), including three ‘Amrit Snan’ (divine baths).
The Maha Kumbh Mela, started on January 13, was initially expected to experience a crowd of 40 crore devotees in six weeks. However, as of Monday, the Uttar Pradesh government reported that more than 63 crore people had visited the event.
On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared on X that 63.36 crore devotees had taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during Maha Kumbh 2025. More than 1.3 crore people visited the Mela on that day alone.
“Hearty wishes to all the revered saints, Kalpvasis and devotees who have come to take a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam today on the holy bathing festival of Mahashivratri dedicated to the worship of Lord Bholenath in Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj. May Tribhuvanpati Lord Shiva and holy river Mother Ganga bless everyone. This is my prayer. Har Har Mahadev,” the CM said in his tweet.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes to all on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the PM said, “I wish all my countrymen a very happy Mahashivratri, a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. May this divine occasion bring happiness, prosperity and good health to all of you, and also strengthen the resolve for a developed India. Har Har Mahadev!”
On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav performed puja of Lord Shiva at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple. Devotees in large numbers gathered at the Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar on on the occasion of Maha Shivratri to take a holy dip in the River Ganga.

On the sacred occasion of Maha Shivratri, helicopters showered flower petals over thousands of devotees as they took part in last ‘snan’ at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. The newly elected Delhi CM Rekha Gupta offered prayers at Gauri Shankar Temple on Wednesday on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
“I want to extend my best wishes to the people of the country on the occasion of #MahaShivratri. I pray that the blessings of Bhole Nath stay with us and that Delhi and the country progresses,” she said.
