In this case, the accused is a repeat offender who has been out on bail since 2019. The man raped a 26-year-old woman in a state transport bus standing on a busy bus depot – Swargate Station.
About Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, Main Accused in Pune Rape Case?
In the Pune Bus Rape case, the 36-year-old main accused Dattatraya Ramdas Gade is a repeat offender. The man has gone to jail before also but for different crimes. According to the media reports, multiple cases of robbery, chain-snatching and theft have been registered against him in Pune and Ahilyanagar district.
He was released on bail almost six years ago in 2019. In 2024, Dattatraya Ramdas Gade was also summoned by the Pune Police in a theft case but he has now been on the run. It was Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, who raped a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary state transport bus at a bus stand in Pune.
Pune Bus Rape Accused Still On the Run
The accused in the Pune Bus Rape case remains absconding. The Pune city police has widened its search for him. According to the media reports, a total of 13 teams are on the ground to nab the offender out of which eight are from the Crime Branch unit and five are of the Swargate Police Station. A reward of Rs 1 lakh has been announced on the accused Dattatraya Ramdas Gade.
26-Year-Old Woman Raped in Stationary Bus at Pune’s Swargate Station
The rape victim, a 26-year-old woman who worked as a hospital counsellor, was returning home and was waiting for a bus at the Swargate station when the accused tricked her into entering a stationary bus. Gade misled the victim by telling her that the bus she was waiting for, had arrived on a different platform. When she felt suspicious and asked him about the other passengers, he lied to her that they were inside the bus.
The victim trusted him and entered the parked bus where he locked the doors and raped her. Initially, while making a conversation with her, the accused addressed her as ‘didi’ (elder sister). As per the CCTV footage, an unidentified man can be seen providing details about an incident, pointing towards the parked bus. The accused is also clearly visible in the footage.
