Guwahati, 27 February (HS): Assam BJP State President Dilip Saikia has said that the last three days have proved to be historic for Assam. These days not only opened the doors to our bright future, but also gave an opportunity to present the unique cultural heritage of Assam on the global stage. Along with this, unprecedented success has also been achieved in strengthening the economic foundation of Assam and developing connectivity facilities.
He said that especially with the aim of making Assam attractive for investors, the state government organized the “Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Connectivity Summit” on 25 and 26 February at the Assam Veterinary College Ground in Khanapara, Guwahati. The event received immense support not only from across the country but also internationally, which is a matter of pride for the people of Assam. Under the visionary leadership of Assam’s hardworking Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the two-day summit witnessed Assam receiving investments worth ₹4.91 lakh crore, the biggest investment achievement in the history of Assam.
The key sectors that received investments include development of refinery, food processing and research sector; expansion of solar, hydropower and bio-energy projects; establishing Assam as a major tourism and cultural hub; strengthening medical facilities and pharmaceutical industry; development of trade routes, multi-modal transport systems and border trade and establishing Assam as a digital innovation hub.
The state government has undertaken several policy reforms to promote industrial and business growth, including simplifying regulatory processes and expediting project approvals, tax exemptions and sector-specific incentive schemes, promoting new ventures under Assam’s Startup Policy, setting up of Integrated Logistics Parks to strengthen logistics supply chain, etc.
The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he said that the world will soon recognise “A for Assam”. His inspiring words have led Assam towards a bright future.
The BJP president said that many Indian and foreign companies including Tata, Adani, Reliance, JSW, SR, Vedanta, Global Health Ltd etc. have pledged to invest in various sectors. Besides, the support of Union ministers – S. Jaishankar, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, Hardeep Singh Puri, Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia made the event more successful.
The credit for the success of this summit goes to the representatives of 75 countries, heads of missions of 67 countries, special representatives of nine friendly countries, ministers, MLAs and officials of the Assam government. State president Dilip Saikia expressed gratitude to all the participants.
