Indian stock markets tumbled nearly 2% in the second half of the day, driven by global trade war fears and concerns over a slowing US economy. All 13 sectoral indices were in the red, with BSE Smallcap and Midcap indices sliding almost 3%. IT and financial stocks led the Nifty 50’s decline as foreign investors pulled out funds.
The fall followed Trump’s announcement of fresh tariffs on Mexican, Canadian, and Chinese goods, escalating trade tensions. Markets, down 18% from September highs, continue to reel under weak earnings momentum and persistent foreign investor selling.
