Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa registered a spectacular win against Czech Republic’s Nguyen Thai Dai Van in the third round of the Prague Masters on Friday. This win was very important for him, as he had to settle for a draw in the first two rounds.
The game started with the Nimzo-Indian defense, in which Praggnanandhaa made a strategic lead. He got a decisive lead in the 14th move itself, after which he easily took control of the match. Although there were some ups and downs in the middle moments, there was no doubt about the result.
Dai Van was in a defensive position in the middle game, despite having an extra pawn. The Indian Grandmaster played with intelligence and precision and turned the situation in his favor. He got a rook in exchange for a minor piece and eventually ensured victory with technical excellence.
Speaking on his performance after the match, Praggnanandhaa said, “There was nothing special in the first round, my position was good. But today’s victory was important for me and it has boosted my confidence.”
With this victory, Praggnanandhaa is moving ahead strongly in the tournament and is considered a strong contender for the title.
