The rescue operation in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district entered its third day as teams intensified efforts to locate four missing workers trapped in the avalanche at Mana village. So far, 50 out of 54 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers have been rescued, but four succumbed to their injuries.
Initial reports suggested 55 workers were trapped, but District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari later confirmed that one worker was on leave, reducing the total to 54. Four workers remain unaccounted for as rescue teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), continue their search with sniffer dogs and advanced equipment such as a Victim Locating and Thermal Image Camera.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been monitoring the situation closely. He reviewed the rescue efforts from the Disaster Control Room in Dehradun on the second consecutive day. Senior officials, including Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta and Lt Gen D G Mishra, have arrived at the site to oversee operations.
Six helicopters, including three from the Indian Army, two from the Indian Air Force, and a civil chopper, have been deployed. The missing workers include Harmesh Chand (Himachal Pradesh), Ashok (Uttar Pradesh), and Anil Kumar and Arvind Singh (Uttarakhand).
