West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has dismissed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations of electoral fraud, affirming that the voter roll update process follows legal protocols. Responding on its official X account, the CEO outlined the established procedures, referencing the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and the Manual on Electoral Rolls.
The post clarified that the process involves Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), District Election Officers (DEOs), and CEOs across India. Political parties also play an active role through Booth Level Agents, who can raise objections at designated levels.
The response came after CM Banerjee accused the BJP of voter list manipulation, likening West Bengal’s situation to alleged irregularities in Maharashtra and Delhi. She announced a committee to probe the matter, claiming BJP-backed voter list alterations undermine the state’s democratic integrity.
