The death toll from the devastating avalanche near Mana village rose to five after another body was recovered this afternoon. Three workers remain missing as rescue operations continue under extreme weather conditions.
The avalanche struck the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) labour site on Friday, burying 54 workers. So far, 50 workers have been rescued, but four succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Rescue efforts, involving over 200 personnel from multiple agencies, have been hampered by heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures. Specialised equipment, including RECCO radars and avalanche rescue dogs, is being used to locate the missing.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey and urged officials to intensify search operations. Survivors recalled the horror, describing how they ran for their lives as a “mountain of snow” came crashing down.
