The Delhi government will stop providing petrol to vehicles older than 15 years at fuel stations across the city after March 31, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced on Saturday.
The decision follows a high-level meeting on air pollution control measures. Sirsa emphasized that stringent steps are being taken to reduce vehicular emissions, including restrictions on older vehicles, mandatory anti-smog measures, and transitioning to electric public transport.
“We are installing gadgets at petrol pumps to identify vehicles older than 15 years, and no fuel will be provided to them,” Sirsa said. The government will inform the Union Ministry of Petroleum about the move.
Additionally, high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial complexes must install anti-smog guns. Nearly 90% of Delhi’s CNG buses will be phased out by December 2025, replaced by electric buses. These measures aim to tackle Delhi’s persistent air pollution crisis.
