Russia has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of prioritizing war over peace following a tense visit to Washington, where he clashed with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova labeled the trip “a complete diplomatic failure,” asserting that Kyiv has no real interest in ending the conflict. The visit turned contentious when Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Zelenskyy for his handling of the war and alleged lack of gratitude for U.S. support.
The heated discussion led to Zelenskyy abruptly leaving the White House without signing a key minerals deal tied to future U.S. aid. A planned joint press conference was also canceled, further straining ties.
Moscow seized on the fallout, claiming it proved Ukraine’s unwillingness to negotiate. “Zelenskyy does not want peace. He is obsessed with prolonging the war,” Zakharova said, reinforcing Russia’s narrative that Kyiv remains under Western influence.
