A devastating avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp near Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, burying 54 workers under snow. Rescue teams have saved 46 workers, but seven lost their lives. One worker remains missing, prompting intensified search efforts using advanced technology, including victim-locating cameras, drones, and sniffer dogs.
Harsh weather initially hampered operations, but with improved conditions, over 200 personnel from the Army, ITBP, SDRF, NDRF, and BRO are working tirelessly. Helicopters are airlifting injured workers, while the Indian Air Force deployed the Drone-Based Intelligent Buried Object Detection (DIBOD) System to aid the search.
The avalanche blocked the Badrinath-Joshimath highway, making aerial rescue crucial. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured full central support. Efforts continue to locate the missing worker, as authorities push forward with urgent rescue measures
