The Abu Huraila Mosque at Ghosh Company Chowk was voluntarily demolished by the mosque committee following a notice from the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA). The four-story structure had been illegally built on municipal land without design approval.
The GDA had issued a 15-day ultimatum on February 15, warning of forced demolition if the mosque was not removed. Before the deadline expired, the committee began dismantling the structure on Saturday. A commercial complex is set to replace the site.
This follows similar demolitions, including the Madni Mosque in Kushinagar and the 85-year-old Jahangir Khan Mosque in Meerut.
