President Donald Trump delivered his first address to Congress since returning to the White House, outlining a bold vision for his second term while launching a scathing critique of the previous administration. Just six weeks into his presidency, Trump declared that the U.S. is experiencing a dramatic transformation, vowing to end “woke” policies, strengthen the economy, and impose strict trade tariffs.
“We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplish in four or eight years,” Trump proclaimed to thunderous applause from Republican lawmakers. “The American Dream is surging—bigger and better than ever before.”
One of the speech’s central themes was Trump’s pledge to dismantle diversity and inclusion programs, both domestically and internationally. “Our country will be woke no longer,” he stated, emphasizing that hiring in the U.S. will be based solely on merit rather than race or gender.
The address was not without controversy. Several Democratic lawmakers held up placards reading “false,” and Congressman Al Green was removed from the chamber after heckling and waving his walking stick at the president.
Trump also highlighted his administration’s focus on economic revival, blaming the previous Biden administration for record inflation and vowing to rescue the economy. He reaffirmed his commitment to ending the Ukraine war and addressing illegal immigration.
Talking about the fresh set of tariffs imposed on Canada, Mexico, and China, Trump said that U.S. trade had long been unfairly disadvantaged. “There’ll be a little disturbance, but we’re okay with that. It won’t be much,” he said, downplaying concerns about inflation. With his signature bravado, Trump closed his address by assuring Americans, “America is back.
