Steve Smith, Australia’s skipper for Champions Trophy 2025 has announced his retirement from the One Day International format hours following India knocked Australia out of the Champions Trophy on Tuesday. Smith was accountable of leading the Australian side in Pat Cummins’ absence, who missed the marquee ICC event due to an injury. Steve Smith, initially started out as a leggie scaled great heights in every format of the game. Smith has won the ODI World Cup two times (2015 and 2023) and has also won the T20 World Cup once (2021).
Smith has succeeded Australia’s World Cup winning captain. He also holds the distinction of winning the World Test Championship in 2023. The former Australia skipper had informed his teammates that he will hang up his boots from the ODIs as soon as Australia were knocked out of the Champions Trophy. However, Smith will continue to represent Australia in Tests and T20Is.
