In a significant decision, on Wednesday during a Madras High Court hearing, a bench led by Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy said that only devotional and religious songs should be played within all the Hindu temple premises, with a complete ban on playing non-religious songs from movies.
The decision came into effect after a temple devotee named Venkatesh Sowrirajan from Puducherry filed a petition concerning orchestra arrangements at the Veezhi Varadharaja Perumal Temple in Thirumalai Rayan Pattinam. As per reports, the devotee complained that movie songs were being played during temple festivals, which are unarguably inappropriate at a sacred place like a temple. Following the court’s orders, the government authorities have assured that they would keep a check that only devotional songs are played within the temple premises.
